Cutie and Fluffy
Being a Foster Parent to my chicks is really cool because i get to
take care of the animals and see how they change plus everybody wants to see them and pet them. Everyone including my friends and family want to hold the chicks and I get to tell them how to do it properly.
Cutie is very feisty and Fluffy is calm and nice to everybody. Cutie
loves being with Fluffy and always wants to be with her/him, my
questions is that if Cutie loves being with Fluffy then if they are
separated what would happen?"

Peep, Cheep & Stripes

We had a great time picking up the chicks. The entire family came to witness the event!
This foster dad reports, "We named the chicks Peep, Cheep, and Stripes. As soon as we got home they went straight to the water bowl, then took about a 10 min. nap. Peep is the cute one of the group. Cheep is the feisty one. And Stripes is the "hey! Look at me!" one.

Thursday morning report from this foster dad.
"I cleaned the cage this morning. Peanut likes to stand in the food bowl and kick out the food. White Wing sometimes stands in the water bowl. We put a towel on the floor and put our legs out like a wall and let the chicks play in the middle of it. And White Wing and Peanut peck at a freckle on my leg. They're getting used to eating food out of my hand. "

"Meet Zack, Jack and Rosemary. As soon as we got home we put them in their nice clean home and they immediately went to sleep .
They were tired from their long journey home (10 minute car ride!). They have since made the place their own and Mom already has to clean their house.
We have spent a lot of time talking to them and holding them occasionally. We can’t wait to watch them grow. More to report later…"

"The chicks are all doing really well and like their new home.
I named them after characters from books! The black chick is Mesmeranza from Clover Twig and the Magical Cottage, the light yellow chick is Clover and the darker yellow chick is Tucker from A Cricket in Times Square.
They're eating and drinking well. I held the black chick and he was really calm."

Olivia's foster mom reports that, "This morning we had a tearful bus stop wait – no one wanted to leave their chicks for the day. So coming home was exciting and the chicks seem to be energized and ready to walk around and chirp – we put a little sharpie mark on one of Olivia’s toes to try to tell the two blondes apart ."
Skittles
Originally uploaded by librarian.laura
Skittles is very exciting to have around! With two other sisters they hardly get any sleep. Skittles' mom reports that, "the chicks were kind of falling asleep in front of the water dish and laying in the food dish - very funny. We took a few pictures and were amazed how quickly their little home got dirty!! They all seem to want to sit in the food and scratch the food out of the peanut butter lid – is this normal??"

This chick was really ready to check out the Library! The first pip in the egg appeared just after noon and at 2:30 the chick hatched out of its egg! It usually takes between 12-14 hours after the first pip for chicks to hatch out of their eggs. Wow-what a Mighty Library Chick!
